The shell dissolves in 30 to 90 seconds and the compartments inside release into the root zone in stages over 4 to 6 weeks. It is the same method in a windowsill pot, a window box, or a patio planter.

A pod feeds for 4 to 6 weeks depending on the size of the plant: about six weeks for a small plant, five for a medium one, and a large indoor plant takes two pods every four weeks. Outdoors in hot weather, check at four weeks. A 12-pack is twelve pods, roughly a dollar each, and about a year of feeding for one small plant.

One pod per small or medium plant per feeding, two for a large indoor plant. In a window box or a big planter with several plants, place one pod near each plant.

Yes. Balcony and patio pots, window boxes, planters and ornamentals all use the same pods and the same feeding by plant size, so nothing about the method changes when you step outside. Outdoor plants in hot weather feed a little faster, so check at four weeks rather than six.

There are no dusty powders, no strong chemical smells, and no open bags of granular fertilizer. A pod goes into the soil and stays there.

It is very hard to. The organic blend releases gradually and there is no salt shock. Follow the plant-size guidance; extra pods will not make a plant grow faster.

As with any plant food, store it away from pets and children, and keep pets from digging in a freshly fed pot.

PVA dissolves impressively, but it is still a synthetic, petroleum-derived polymer, and dissolving is not the same as biodegrading. The science on its full breakdown is still debated. Our founder is an environmental scientist; she chose paper, which is not part of that debate.
