What feeds your plant, and why
Plant proteins
The primary nitrogen source is derived from organic plant meals. Unlike synthetic nitrogen salts that deliver a chemical spike and risk root burn, plant-based nitrogen releases slowly through natural biological processes in the soil. Your plant gets steady feeding over weeks rather than a single hit followed by nothing.
Why it matters for indoors: pots have limited soil volume, so excess nitrogen has nowhere to go except into the roots. Slow-release organic nitrogen makes overfertilization effectively impossible, which is why BioPod has zero burn risk at any dose.
Sea kelp
Kelp meal provides over 60 micronutrients including iron, zinc, manganese, and boron, plus natural plant growth compounds that support root development and stress tolerance. These are the same compounds commercial greenhouse operations use, delivered in a form indoor plant owners never have to measure or mix.
Mineral potassium
Fast-acting potassium supports root strength, flowering, and fruit development. It is the nutrient most directly responsible for the visible greening and vitality that motivates continued plant care, and it delivers the early visual result within the first days after application.
Beneficial soil microbes
Dormant beneficial bacteria are housed in a porous carbon framework inside the pod. When watered, they activate, colonize the root zone, and begin a controlled biological process that suppresses root disease, enhances nutrient cycling, and builds healthier soil over time. A fertilizer feeds the plant. BioPod feeds the plant and the soil.
FSC-sourced cellulose paper that dissolves and disappears
The founder tested three shell materials through hands-on, bench-scale experimentation before choosing the one that goes into every pod.
PVA, a polyvinyl alcohol film, was rejected because, as an environmental scientist, the founder identified microplastic persistence concerns in indoor potting soil. Plant-starch shells were rejected due to premature degradation in high humidity. Biodegradable cellulose paper was the only option that passed all five evaluation criteria: soil safety, moisture stability, shelf life, cost, and biodegradability.
The selected shell is made from FSC-sourced wood pulp fibers and a natural cellulose component. It is fully biodegradable, non-toxic, and dissolves in soil within 30 to 90 seconds when watered, leaving zero residue. It is safe for all plant species, soil microbes, pets, and children.
